The Hillsborough District Life Skills Committee provides various programs throughout K-12 grades and for the parents of our students. Minda Maggio coordinates the committee. Minda works with students, teachers, administrators and parents to implement prevention and education skill building programs. From the time our children enter Kindergarten, these programs begin to prepare students to deal with stress, peer pressure, self-esteem issues, body image, cultural and personal differences, along with the dangers of alcohol, drug and tobacco use and abuse.
Students are encouraged to develop healthy friendships, positive attitudes and assertive styles of relating. In addition, they develop the necessary skills for a healthy mind and body, along with the tools to acquire decision-making and problem solving skills.
Through the use of puppets, role play, student activities, videos, peer-to-peer leadership, parent-to-parent workshops, trainings, community wide activities, professional guest speakers, games, and student presentations, clear messages are taught about appropriate behaviors, expression of feelings, dealing with anger, stress management, bullying, listening and communication skills, drug, alcohol and tobacco education.
